grrrrr

The tragic death of an animal trainer In the aptly named Big Bear lake area raises questions about the use of exotic and dangerous animals in movies. The Bear that killed the trainer had just been used in the latest Will Farrell movie (insert your own joke here ) and I cant understand why they insist on using live exotics in these movies.

If you saw ""10,000 yrs BC or "I am legend" you would see computer generated animals that are all but indistinguishable from the real thing. Not that I am a good judge of woolly mammoths Saber tooth tigers or mutant killer dogs, but you know what I mean. On 20/20 Friday 18 April visual effects supervisor for the movie "The Day After Tomorrow" told Sam Champion that the famous scenes of glacial sheering in Al Gores "An Inconvenient Truth" were straight out of the movie T.D.A.T. Talk about an inconvenient expose.

What this highlights is that you can fake a documentary to such an extent that you win an academy award. Why then can you not do the same with these poor caged and staged animal extras? Why put animals through this and endanger lives when computer generated scenes are so realistic as to be indistinguishable. Its not the bears fault that the trainer was killed, it was being a bear. Sigfried and Roy will attest a tiger is always still just a tiger.

Comments
Leave the critters to Granny and Eli May! If they can
make a mechanical shark they can dispense with using real live beasts! Unless it gets to work with Adam Sandler I say let them stay in the woods!

I couldn't agree with you more. Wild animals should not be confused with Disney characters. This bear was just being a bear. Sigfried & Roy's tiger was just being a tiger and the tiger that mauled his trainer at Tippi Hedrin's animal refuge last December was just acting on instinct. With the advent of computer generated effects, there is no need to subject the actor to this danger or the animal to this indignity.

I agree with the over use of animals in movies, it should be restricted to dogs and cats and small harmless animals. Cats in particular are expendable and should be used more. doorstops, gloves, flatcat frizbees and squirrels of course are the finger puppets of satan, just ask my dogs.

Leave the animals alone! Put a guy in a bear suit. This is too much1

They should use computer generated animals all the time and I think We should have been saved from Will Farrell movies, it was so close

They should use out of work dumb actors to play the dumb animals, whats Sylvestor Stalone doin

The role of a dumb animal would be beyond Stalone,s range. In Lord Of The Rings there were no real animals used and it didnt look any less authentic.

If you have a look at the inquries at http://rapid4me.com/, you'll notice that the theme of animals protection is rather popular and topical nowadays. Great tendencies, I believe ;)
